WHAT IS UTERINE TRANSPLANT?
Women who are sterile, have badly damaged or non-functioning uterus can get pregnant thanks to a procedure known as uterine transplant. During the surgery, the uterus of a recipient is transplanted from a living or deceased donor. Uterine transplantation is a true and legal alternative to adoption or surrogacy.
Only when the transplanted organ functions well in their host bodies are organ transplants successful. Success for a uterus transplant, however, is more specifically described as the woman having to deliver a healthy baby in addition to the uterus having to function.
FACTS ON UTERINE TRANSPLANTATION
The procedure’s goal is to enable infertile women with the absolute uterine factor to become pregnant. Absolute uterine factor infertility is brought on by a congenitally absent uterus, one that has been removed through surgery, or a uterus that is not functioning properly.
