What Causes Hypoplastic Uterus?

What Causes Hypoplastic Uterus?

A hypoplastic uterus can be caused by a variety of reasons, including genetic abnormalities, environmental pollutants, hormone imbalances, uterine infections or inflammations, and past operations or other diseases. The precise cause is determined by whether the hypoplasia is internal or exterior.

External Uterine Hypoplasia Causes

  • Turner syndrome and Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome are examples of genetic anomalies or illnesses.
  • Toxins in the environment or drugs that impair fetal development
  • Hysterectomy and uterine artery embolisation are examples of surgical procedures.

Internal Uterine Hypoplasia Causes

  • Hormone abnormalities, especially during puberty and menopause
  • Uterine or reproductive system infections or inflammations
  • Scarring or intrauterine adhesions caused by past surgery, infections, or other disorders
  • Chronic endometritis, a kind of uterine lining inflammation, can also result in internal uterine hypoplasia.
