What happens before ICSI?

These steps take place for egg retrieval:

Ovulation induction (also called ovarian stimulation): For eight to fourteen days, the egg donor receives medicine injections. This prompts your ovaries to start maturing several eggs at once. The ultimate maturation of the eggs will then be aided by an injection of Lupron or human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG).
Egg retrieval: Employs a tiny needle to puncture the vaginal wall and reach the ovaries under the guidance of trans vaginal ultrasound equipment. There is no pain because a light anesthetic is used to complete this stage. The eggs are extracted and collected using a suction apparatus attached to the needle.

The egg retrieval and sperm collection both happen on the same day, unless you’re utilizing frozen sperm. Whoever is providing the sperm:

two to three days without having intercourse or masturbating (no ejaculating) before the sperm collection.
ejaculates, collecting it into a container provided by the lab, either at home or in a private room at a reproductive clinic. Within 60 minutes after ejaculation, the laboratory must receive the specimen.
