What is fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS)?

Fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) is a condition that occurs in a growing infant when a pregnant woman consumes alcohol throughout her pregnancy. A syndrome is a collection of symptoms that occur concurrently as a result of a certain sickness or abnormal situation.

FAS is a chronic illness that cannot be healed. This condition can be avoided if you do not consume alcohol while pregnant. Even little amounts of alcohol consumed during pregnancy may harm your developing fetus.

What are the symptoms of FASD?

Fetal alcohol syndrome can cause the following symptoms in infants:

  • A smooth ridge between the nose and top lip, a narrow upper lip, and small eyes are all abnormal facial traits.
  • Body mass index (BMI) is low.
  • Short stature.
  • Sleep and sucking issues.
  • The head is small.
  • Problems with vision or hearing.
