What is oligospermia (low sperm count)?

You have a low sperm count if you have oligospermia. A millilitre of semen contains less than 15 million sperm, according to one medical definition. One millilitre of semen typically contains more than 15 million sperm.

Oligospermia is sometimes referred to as oligozoospermia and low sperm count. Severe oligospermia is another name for a sperm count that is so low that it is less than 5 million sperm per millilitre of semen.

What are the signs and symptoms of oligospermia?

After a year of unprotected sexual activity, infertility with a partner is the primary indicator or symptom of reduced sperm count.

How is oligospermia diagnosed?

  • Sperm function testing and examination of the sperm.
  • Retrograde ejaculation (sperm travelling backward inside you) can be detected through a urine test.
  • ultrasounds of your scrotum and transrectus are examples of imaging tests for your reproductive organs.
  • tests to assess hormone levels in the endocrine system.
